Minimum-Energy Broadcasting in Static Ad Hoc Wireless Networks

چکیده
Energy conservation is a critical issue in ad hoc wireless networks for node and network life since the nodes are powered by batteries only One major approach for energy conservation is to route a communica tion session along the route which requires the lowest total energy con sumption This optimization problem is referred to as Minimum Energy Routing While the minimum energy unicast routing problem can be solved in polynomial time by shortest path algorithms it remains open whether the minimum energy broadcast routing problem can be solved in polynomial time despite the NP hardness of its general graph version Re cently three greedy heuristics were proposed in MST minimum span ning tree SPT shortest path tree and BIP broadcasting incremental power They evaluated their approaches through simulations but lit tle is known about their analytical performance The main contribution of this paper is a quantitative characterization of their performances in terms of approximation ratios By exploring geometric structures of Eu clidean MSTs we were able to prove that the approximation ratio of MST is between and and the approximation ratio of BIP is between and On the other hand we show that the approximation ratio of SPT is at least n where n is the number of receiving nodes To the best of our knowledge these are the rst analytical results for the minimum energy broadcasting problem

Intuitionistic fuzzy logic for adaptive energy efficient routing in mobile ad-hoc networks
In recent years, mobile ad-hoc networks have been used widely due to advances in wireless technology. These networks are formed in any environment that is needed without a fixed infrastructure or centralized management. Mobile ad-hoc networks have some characteristics and advantages such as wireless medium access, multi-hop routing, low cost development, dynamic topology and etc. In these netwo...
متن کاملLEBRP - A Lightweight and Energy Balancing Routing Protocol for Energy-Constrained Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
A wireless ad hoc network typically refers to any set of wireless networks where all devices have equal status on a network and are free to associate with any other wireless ad hoc network devices in their range. As the nature of these networks, they commonly do not have external power supplies, and each node has a limited internal power source. In this paper, we put forward a new routing proto...
متن کاملBroadcast Routing in Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks: A Particle Swarm optimization Approach
While routing in multi-hop packet radio networks (static Ad-hoc wireless networks), it is crucial to minimize power consumption since nodes are powered by batteries of limited capacity and it is expensive to recharge the device. This paper studies the problem of broadcast routing in radio networks. Given a network with an identified source node, any broadcast routing is considered as a directed...
متن کاملA Preamble-Based Broadcasting Technique for Wireless Ad Hoc Sensor Networks
Broadcasting is a fundamental operation in any wireless networks, more so in wireless ad hoc sensor networks, where each sensor node has limited transmission range and battery power. Although broad-casting in wireless ad hoc sensor networks has many advantages but it can cause serious problems like—broadcast storm, which could cause a lot of contention, redundant, retransmission, collision and ...
متن کاملEvaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...
